Survey Says...

Alright everyone, it's your turn to spill the beans, haha. Please share some info about yourself in the comments. I'd really love to hear about who reads this blog and get an idea of what I should post about in future posts. Please answer the following questions if you would:

1) Your name
2) Where are you from?
3) Which do you do more, sew or quilt?
4) Where did you learn to sew or quilt?
5) How long have you been sewing/quilting?
6) What is one thing you want to do but are afraid of? (Can be related to sewing/quilting or not)

I'll answer first:

1) Anna
2) From Iowa City, IA, but lived in San Antonio, Texas for most of my life
3) At the moment I think I sew more than I quilt but I dream about quilting. I LOVE to make tote bags and small quilts and someday might make some clothing.
4) My mother in law, Regina, (aka the OTHER Crafty Girl) taught me to make a pillowcase for my new home when I first got married. She trusted me to use her BERNINA! I was hooked and have been sewing/quilting ever since.
5) That would make it about 6 years (but I did scrapbooking and rubber stamping cards before that and I've always sort of been "crafty")
6) I want to make some clothes, and maybe even with button holes! I love the Classic Shirt pattern so I think that's where I'd like to start.

Now, will you join me in the Friday Free for All and tell about yourself? I look forward to your replies.

Happy Stitches,
Anna

  1. Hi Anna,

Thanks for checking out my blog (The Cottage Home), I'll be the first to comment on this one.

    2) Grew up partly in California and then Texas, no reside in the midwest.
    3) SEW!!! I love sewing and especially love making clothes for my girls. I've made one quilt from Heather Bailey's Freshcut for my daughters "Big Girl Room", but that's enough quilting for me.
    4) I have only been sewing for about 2-years. I grew up with my Mom and Grandma sewing, but finally decided to take it up myself.....I think it's in the blood :-).
5)Hmmmm.......tough question.......I guess I am afraid of sewing with elastic thread......looks like it would be super easy once you get the hang of it, but too scary for me :-).

Thanks again for visitng......look forward to getting to know you!

    Lindsay

  2. 1) Your name: Ruthie
    2) Where are you from? I'm from San Antonio, but live in Houston
    3) Which do you do more, sew or quilt? Sew
    4) Where did you learn to sew or quilt? I taught myself when I was living in Montana 3 1/2 years ago, with help over the phone from my mom, sister (Anna) and mother in law! But even before that I knew how to sew a little bit, and could thread a machine and do a straight stitch. We always had a sewing machine growing up even if it was just used for mending and sewing on girl scout badges.
    5) How long have you been sewing/quilting? I've never quilted, but made my first pair of yoga pants 3 1/2 years ago.
    6) What is one thing you want to do but are afraid of? (Can be related to sewing/quilting or not) I want to make some of my own patterns!

  6. Okay... ready set go!

    1. I am Gabrielle from i.craft at Bee Wise Bags and French Picnic.

    2. From Boise Idaho but have lived in over 40 different places, a bit of a bohemian, obviously. :)

    3. I sew everything... yes everything.

    4. I learned in my Great Grandmother's kitchen on her White trundle machine starting at age 6.

    5. oooo... that makes 34 years. Although I began sewing then, it was only easy things like doll clothes, pillows & odds and ends. I started garment sewing in junior high.

    6. My only true fear is messing up expensive fabric. I made a Karl Lagerfeld shirt out of $100 per yard silk in my 20's. I sewed the sleeve cuffs on backwards so that the buttons were facing upward. I wore it anyway, refusing to pick it out and ruin the silk. :) Other fears are not making everything I want to before I die!

Thanks for the survey... I love it!

    OK....
    1-Laurie
2-Central Maine, but moving to Texas this summer!
3-Definitely quilt more :) For sewing I'm usually just mending clothes, hemming pants for my children. I used to make curtains - but haven't done that in a very long time!
4/5-I am a self taught - my Mom is not crafty at all :( One of my grandmothers crocheted and knit - I would admire the things she made! I taught my other grandmother to crochet when she was about 60 and she made tons of blankets! I'm so glad I still have a few :) I started "quilting" when I was a senior in high school (30 years ago) I wanted to make my boyfriend a quilt - which I did and he broke up with me a week later!! What a bum!! I stopped quilting while I was in college and in my early married years and took it up again about 5-6 years ago. I finally tried free motion quilting this winter!! Woohoo! I love to work from patterns - although I'm working on a quilt for my teenage son from my own design.
    6-Circles!!

    1) Amy
    2) I am originally from New Mexico, but we are now Arkansas transplants.
    3) I am currently certifiably obsessed with sewing! I haven't tried quilting yet, but I grew up watching my grandmother quilt, so I think one of these days I'd like to try.

    6) I am pretty fearless when it comes to trying new things craft-wise, but in everyday life, the things that scare the bejeebers out of me are cockroaches! Blech!!
